Applying the wax

Wax is an important component of a successful acid stained concrete because it protects your masterpiece. We know, we said the sealer protects your floor, but wax protects the sealer. Wax can be easily and cheaply reapplied as it wears off over time. It also allows for easy maintenance and will keep the beautiful luster of your floor. And of course, it is by far the easiest step of the process.

Choosing a wax.

The best option is to buy a wax from the same supplier that you bought your stain and sealer from. If you don’t get it there, check any of the hardware or building supply stores. We recommend a high quality, mop on wax.

Floor Wax.

Mop on the wax.

Application of the wax is totally simple. All you need to do is pour the wax in a mop bucket and with a clean mop apply the wax is nice, even circle eight strokes. Try to get the edges first and just apply as evenly as you can.

Applying the wax.

Let the wax dry.

Wax coats take about 30 minutes to dry properly, depending on the conditions. Wax should be dry to the touch and not tacky.

Apply two more coats of wax.

Following the above instructions, apply two more coats of wax and let each coat dry properly.

Mark high traffic areas.

Take a permanent marker and make some small inconspicuous marks in various high traffic areas. Since you will be adding two additional coats of wax, these marks will notfiy you of when your wax is starting to wear thin so that you can be sure to reapply. The mark looks very conspicuous in this picture, but believe me, no one notices. You need to find a balance between marking a high traffic spot on your floor and finding a good spot where it won’t stand out.
